FAQ

What does the word SquagTM mean?

We built this platform based on our loved one on the autism spectrum. “Squag” was one of his first words – his word for “square” back in the early days of his diagnosis and treatment therapy. The word reminds how far he’s come and how far we know he’ll go.

Is SquagTM therapy?

Squag™ is not therapy. It was built as a social, recreational and creative outlet for kids 8-18 on the autism spectrum. But we’d be lying if we said that we didn’t implement many therapeutic threads we’ve gathered throughout the years.

How do I know my child is safe?

Our first priority is the emotional and physical security of your child. There are two components of Squag,TM – one that is completely private (the SquagpadTM) and one that offers users the opportunity to mindfully reach out to their peers with the support of their parents to guide them. Please see our Security page for details.

Is SquagTM for all kids on the autism spectrum?

Absolutely. Squag™ welcomes tweens and teens from all corners of the autism spectrum, ages 8-18. The unique design is ageless and free of labels. You know your child better than we ever could, so Squag™ created a matching system whereby you can decide how much or how little support you want to offer them inside the SquagpadTM.

Why can’t my kid just use facebook or twitter?

Squag™ is not suggesting that your child cannot use other social platforms, But it was important to us to create a different kind of space online where giving users a chance to self-reflect before they reach out to their peers.  See “Who Squags?” on our About page for more details.

Is SquagTM a business or not-for-profit?

Squag™ is very proud to be a Certified B CorporationTM (one of the first in Canada!) B Corporations are a new kind of company that meet higher standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability. Unlike traditional corporations, Certified B Corporations are legally required to consider the impact of their decisions on their employees, suppliers, community, consumers, and environment and uphold certain standards. 10% of our profits (at least!) go to local and global charities that serve kids with diverse needs.
